after a massive deluge in the bay area the past several days, with at least 6 inches of rain, everything cleared out this afternoon. i figured the birds would want to be flying so i hiked up into our local regional park to the ridges. there is one spot where i've often seen kites and hawks cruising so i hung out there...and saw a couple of kites hunting, with a red tailed hawk showing up for a few minutes. i don't think anyone caught anything, but the interaction between the birds was fun to watch. the kite bothered the hawk enough so it left the area, and the two kites continued to fly around this one spot until it got towards dusk when they left...i could not get really close even with my 500mm lens attached, but here are a representative sample of what i saw today....
